Congressman Conyers,
I caught your interview yesterday with Amy Goodman of Democracy Now. Of ghastly import to me was when you replied, when asked why the Democratic majority was not pushing for impeachment of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney, despite overwhelming evidence of criminal activity, "I’ve got the Constitution in one hand and a calculator in the other." You then said that impeachment would distract from the goodies you hope to squeeze from this administration in its final days. Truly, your inaction is a heinous betrayal of your oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution. Unless you do, President Bush was right. It really is just a goddamned piece of paper.
But while you're holding that calculator, you might want to be prepared to tally the damage when Bush and Cheney bomb Iran. Let's see:
Tens of thousands of American troops killed when the supply lines that run through Shia Iraq are cut by militias.
Thousands of dead Iranian civilians in the initial attacks, hundreds of thousands dead in the inevitable invasion and occupation.
Economic paralysis in the US when gasoline hits $7.00 a gallon.
All for what the IAEA has certified, over and over again, is the peaceful development of nuclear energy, which the NPT allows them to do and pledges our assistance in doing so. Obviously, there's a hidden agenda, and it has something to do with Israel.
Are you sure you don't have the time to open impeachment hearings? There's going to be a lot of blood on your hands if you don't.
